How to Get a Second Opinion
Thesecondopinion provides services to adults in California who have been diagnosed with new or recurring cancer. To get the process started, a telephone call or email from the patient or family member is all it takes; a referral from a physician is not required.
To appear before our Review Panel
- You must be able to be present and to spend from two to three hours with us.
- You must have received a cancer diagnosis from your own physician.
- You or your physician should want clarity about your diagnosis or treatment options.
- Your medical records need to be forwarded at least 7 days before your panel date.
If you elect to proceed, our Adminsrative Coordinator will send a more detailed explanation of the process and the forms we need to proceed, or you can save time by downloading the Instruction Sheet and three forms required to get started.
PLEASE CALL US BEFORE you fill out or mail the forms. It is important that we know who you are and what your needs are BEFORE we receive your information. Our Admistrative Coordinator will ask for some basic information and briefly answer your questions about the process

Please note that you will need multiple copies of the Medical Information Release Form to send to your treating physician and/or medical care facilities.This document gives your medical team permission to forward your records to us. We can advise you on how to submit copies of your medical records to your treating physicians and medical facilities. Thesecondopinion is able to provide assistance in obtaining the required documents.
You will be scheduled for a panel date after we have received all the necessary paperwork and an initial review for suitablility is done by the Medical Services Team.
